Shun Sakai, CCPA
Athletic Therapist & Physician Assistant
Shun Sakai is a Certified Athletic Therapist and Physician Assistant with over eight years of experience in orthopedic and sports medicine care. Originally from Tokyo, Japan, Shun earned his Bachelor of Sports Science from Waseda University, followed by an Advanced Certificate in Athletic Therapy from Mount Royal University in Calgary, and a Physician Assistant degree from the University of Toronto.
Shun believes the body is an interconnected system — one region affects another, and optimal recovery begins with restoring quality movement. His treatment philosophy emphasizes improving movement and motor control before applying load or progressing to higher-intensity rehab. He focuses on injury prevention, functional assessment, and active rehabilitation to help individuals not only recover, but move better and stay active long term.
Shun works with a wide range of patients, from athletes to active individuals, and combines hands-on manual therapy with tailored functional exercise programs. His approach is rooted in detailed assessment, patient education, and movement-based care to support long-term healing and performance.
He also works closely with sports medicine physicians and orthopedic surgeons, providing care across the continuum — from injury evaluation to post-surgical rehab and return-to-sport planning. This integrated perspective allows him to support patients through every phase of their recovery.
Outside the clinic, Shun enjoys living an active lifestyle — whether it’s working out, hiking, scuba diving, or playing basketball. He brings the same passion for movement into his work, helping others return to doing what they love, pain-free and with confidence.
